The summertime is all about getting outside and making the most of the fresh air, and it’s great to see children more active after the winter. However, fitting in a summer of fun and still providing healthy and wholesome food can be tricky, so we’re on hand to help ensure that great food can be convenient and easy to prepare throughout the summer months.

We love the variety and versatility of our products, including lean mince that is perfect for freezing as the base of many delicious meals, and lean turkey burgers in many exciting flavours. You can order online and have your products delivered to your door, or collect at your convenience, so you don’t have to stop having fun to shop!

Help Your Children To Stay Healthy This Summer:

It’s sometimes tricky to tear the children away from their screens and get them moving, and it can be a challenge to fill them up with healthy food and avoid the junk. Here are our top tips (Ref: safefood.eu) :

Encourage healthy sleep patterns. It may be tempting to relax the rules and allow plenty of late nights during the summer, and the odd one won’t hurt, but children do need plenty of sleep in order to grow and develop. Aim for at least 11 hours per night for under 5s, 10 hours for under tens, and at least 9 hours for children over the age of ten. Be aware, though, that all children have different needs and many teenagers do not get enough sleep for optimum functioning of brain and body.

Regulate treats. Having fun doesn’t have to compromise your health, and the children will appreciate an ice cream all the more if it isn’t a daily occurrence. Get the whole family involved in choosing treats, and start building responsible habits that will last a lifetime.

Drink water. Water is essential for healthy development, and is a much cheaper alternative to sugary drinks, which are bad news for teeth and for moods, too! Carry water bottles with you wherever you go and the children will soon get used to this and feel much better for it.

Get active. Studies show that children should have no more than two hours per day of screen time, and it’s easier to turn off the screens when the sun is shining. Find some fun family alternatives, such as setting up an obstacle course in the garden or going for a barbecue at the beach, and you’ll all benefit from the increased exercise and time in the fresh air.
