Our History – Ó Crualaoí Family Butchers

An appreciation for fine food, an awareness of quality food production…

 

The Ó Crualaoí family name has long been associated with a strong appreciation for premium quality

food and naturally delicious fresh Irish meat.

Like many families across Co. Cork, farming and food production have been part of our family history

and heritage for as long as records have existed.  Our collection of old family photos offers a glimpse

into the lives of Kevin Ó Crualaoí and his wife, Máire – a couple who both grew up in a rural Co. Cork

setting, surrounded by some of Europe’s richest and most lush green pasturelands.  The couple’s

rural roots gave them an in-depth knowledge and awareness of food production and farming

techniques.  And, perhaps it’s this rural background that explains Kevin and Máire’s passion for

exceptionally delicious food.

 

Of course, food is only ever as great as the natural surroundings from where it’s sourced. And, it’s

this understanding that’s been central to the development of the Ó Crualaoí group, ever since the

launch of Kevin’s very first Ballincollig outlet in 1957.

Our local family butchers and delicatessens –  sixty years on…

Today, Kevin and Máire’s son, Micheal Ó Crualaoí, operates the chain of Ó Crualaoí’s local family

butchers and delicatessens.  Along with his team of management and staff, Micheal continues to

maintain the Ó Crualaoí ‘food philosophy’ that was instilled in him from a young age.

 

It’s a vision that’s shared by our managing director, Francis Twohig, who trained as a butcher in the

original shop over 30 years ago; and Noel Mc Namara, Ó Crualaoí’s ‘master butcher’, who carefully

assesses the quality of the meat across all our stores.  Times change; however, for the next

generation of the Ó Crualaoí family business, their approach to food production stays the same –

excellent-tasting food requires complete integrity and full traceability.

From the farm gate to our processing facility; from our processing plant to the premises of your local

family butchers and delicatessen; the Ó Crualaoí brand consistently represents trusted, local, natural

food.
